ROCKINGHAM — Chief George Gillenwater acknowledged Officer Darius Ellison for his heroic actions in saving an individual from a burning car.

On Feb. 9, 2023, after Ellison had accomplished his shift for the day and was headed residence, witnessed a motorcar crash and roll down an embankment on the intersection of US 220 and HWY 74 in Rockingham. The car turned engulfed in flames.
